Shaping the Preparation of Future Science and Mathematics Faculty:
A Preparing Future Faculty Program

Welcome to the home page of the Preparing Future Faculty program (PFF) at Binghamton University. Shaping the Preparation of Future Science and Mathematics Faculty is a Preparing Future Faculty Program of the Council of Graduate Schools and the Association of American Colleges and Universities, in collaboration with the American Mathematical Society, the Mathematical Association of America and the State University of New York at Binghamton with support from the National Science Foundation.

Our program will work with a cluster of partner institutions at nearby colleges and universities. The objective is to provide our graduate students a direct experience with faculty work at different kinds of post-secondary institutions with contrasting missions, student bodies, and faculty responsibilities. Our partner institutions are Broome Community College, Ithaca College, King's College and SUNY College at Oneonta.

We try to provide our PFF-fellows with a comprehensive mentoring experience. Working with faculty mentors other than one's research advisor is a fundamental feature of the program. The objective is to establish an on-going relationship with a faculty member with whom the student can explore a full range of faculty work-life issues - supplementing and extending the advice of formal advisors. PFF-fellows will learn about various aspects of faculty responsibilities such as teaching, research and service. In addition they will be provided with various resources as it pertains to their current and future teaching, their job search and future role as faculty members. Some aspects of our program will help our students to stay current and informed. Exposing them to new and emerging issues as well as the historical traditions in this country and abroad is critical to their understanding the workplace they seek to enter.

Every effort will be made to encourage and support those from underrepresented populations interested in faculty careers.
